Reading DIary B Week 6: African Folktales

The Moon and Stars
  • Great famine, Anasai And Kweku Tsin, were hungry and set out to find food in the forest, wehre they are fortunate enough to find a deer.
  • Kwkeu Tsin thought his father was lost to only be found, he shouted his fathers name, which he received a rely that he thougt was his father.
  • It was a monster that was replying, Kweku Tsin was terrified
  • The dragon was not happy to see his deer's body
  • The son told his father of the dragon, the dragon carried them off to his cave
  • A white rooster would crow when anything went wrong
  • Kweku Tsin gathered his fellow prisoners to find a way to get out of the cave
  • He scattered rice all over the floor for the cock to pick up
  • He had the spinners spin a fine hempen rope.
  • He would throw the rope ladder to heaven with hopes the gods will catch it.
  • The plan has worked so far, he went last but only to be followed by the dragon.
  • Kweku Tsin would throw bones at him to keep him busy while they climbed
  • He cut the ladder causing the dragon to fall to the ground while he was pulled up to the heavens
  • Everyone was so pleased with his bravery they made him the sun and his father the mood. and their friends the stars.
How the Tortoise Got Its Shell
  • Mauri wanted to have a great yam festival.
  • He sent his servants to get goats, sheep, cows
  • Mr. Klo was sent to get palm wine.
  • Klow was a power traveler and speedily reached his destination
  • Koklovi was a chick in the palm fields
  • To get the wine Klo had to fight Koklovi
  • Klo won, taking a great pot filled with wine
  • Klo became drunk off of excess wine.
  • It began to rain, Klo was locked out of the party, and couldn't get in
  • The rain didn't stop for 2 months. So everyone stayed in the palace
  • Klo died waiting outside under the weight of the pot.
  • The palm trees piled up on him and the people had to cut away at them once the rain had stopped
  • When they found Klo they noticed a earthenware pot and dust had caked fan formed a hard cover on his back
  • He was restored back to life but was not able to stand up straight again, and had a large shell on his back.
