The Gold-Giving Serpent
  • A poor famer named Haridatta
  • A snake slithered out of a hole and the brahman decided to worship it.
  • The brahman would leave a bowl of milk for the snake and would find a gold denar in the bowl each time he did
  • The brahman sent his son to put the bowl out when the son got the idea that the ant hill the snake lived in would be filled with gold
  • He tried to kill the snake but the snake bit him and killed him instead
  • The brahman distraught with grief cried to the snake but the snake gave him a pearl and told him to return no more.
Pride Goeth Before a Fall
  • 10 cloth merchants did everything together
  • A group of robbers stole of the merchants clothes and money
  • The robbers would make the merchants dance in their loin cloths
  • The traders teamed up on the robbers and took back their stuff
The Prince and the Fakir
  • King Fakir wants a son to pass on his kingdom
  • A man gives him two meats to feed to his wives that will bare him two sons
  • One son will be for the king and the other for the man
  • The king's daughter married a prince that took over the kingdom
How Sun, Moon, and Wind Went Out to Dinner
  • Sun, Moon, and Wind went to have dinner with their aunt and uncle Thunder and Lightening
  • Their mother was a very distant star
  • Sun and Wind were very greedy while Moon was king and unselfish
  • Their mother cursed sun with hot rays for not thinking of his mother
  • She cursed Wind shall blow hot and dry weather, making man avoid him
  • Moon was gifted with being beautiful and considered blessed by man
