What I did the summer can be described as, not much. But I am okay with that. I stayed within the United States, my boyfriend was off on an internship, and I had to be at work some days at 4:30 am, but still I was okay with it.

I started my summer off in my small and terribly boring hometown of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. My bright spots were my best friend and my family. I don't get to see them much during school because I am so busy between work, classes and my friends that live here. I am very family oriented so much that I made my family take in my best friend as one of us.
The furthest I made it this summer was St. Louis Missouri. For most that is not enough but for me, I went to watch the Cardinals play baseball and that was just perfect. My boyfriend, who is the biggest Cubs fan I know, disagreed with my trip but we beat the Cubs when I was there so I would put up with him pouting with a smile on my face.
My job can be a bit demanding when it wants to be. Waking up at 4:15 to be the football stadium is not my ideal time. But being done with work before noon is just fine with me. The hours change and pick up in August and during school. I'm in the sun for long hours, listening to whining(some my own), and counting the minutes until it is time to go inside for food and a nap.

The main part I miss about summer is my lack of responsibilities and my increase of hours I can dedicate to Netflix. I am slightly ashamed of how many hours I put into One Tree Hill in July. But this is what I like doing in the summer. Sure I like to travel but I get to do some traveling during the school year with work so I like to spend my summers laying low with friends and Netflix.
I got to wrap up my summer with my boyfriend going to concerts, eating new foods, and watching Netflix! My summer was just what I needed with a couple parts I could've lived without.
Oh wow, Michelle, 4:30AM... I think it is safe to say that I am ALWAYS asleep at 4:30AM. Some nights I might stay up late, and some days I might get up early... but 4:30AM is going to find me in bed for sure!
ReplyDeleteAnd yo comment about whining in the sun made me think of this wonderful new toy that I have on my desk: a back-to school present from my husband. You might want to get one: it's pretty funny! NO WHINING ... like the "That was easy" button. Here's a video :-)
No Whining Button
It sounds like you had a great summer overall!
ReplyDeleteI understand being very family oriented. I am, as well! It's wonderful to be able to spend time with your family when you're so busy most of the year.
That's awesome and hilarious that you got to watch your team beat your boyfriend's team in person. I'm sure that made for some fun conversation!
I hope that your semester is going well and that you're enjoying the year even without as much Netflix.
Hey Michelle, I to didn’t do much this summer beside summer school and work meaning I had to stay in Oklahoma as well. I usually travel a lot in summer so I can relate to not “doing much this summer”. It must be tough getting up that early for work however, I am sure you love what you do and getting out early is a plus!
ReplyDeleteI too am a Netflix junkie. I wish I could say that I cut down during the school year. I should, but it is hard. My boyfriend also went to an internship for the summer, in Pennsylvania. Long distance is not the greatest. Waking up at four in the morning and being in the sun sounds awful, but I bet it builds character!
ReplyDeleteDear Michelle,
ReplyDeleteOh you work for the football team? What a coincidence so do I! Perhaps we cross paths during the day! As for waking up at 4:30 I feel your pain...it really does suck especially when the people you work with make it even worse! Your boyfriend seems like a class act, someone who might also work for the football team...perhaps I also cross paths with him during the day..hmm interesting! As for Netflix, One Tree Hill is a solid choice, whoever recommended that to you deserves a medal! If you ever need any other recommendations just let me know I have plenty!
Hi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like the perfect summer to me, netflix! I love watching netflix, and One Tree Hill is one of my favorite shows ever. I am actually watching it again for like the 3rd time now, Im running out of other things to watch. 4:30 am is early, what do you do for work? I am actually interviewing for a position that starts at 5am and am wondering how I am going to get up for it, Im sure I will find a way. Good luck with the semester!
I understand your pain of living in a small town all summer with nothing to do but visit with old friends and family. There is no way I could wake up at 4:30 each morning for any kind of reason. I am interested to know what you would possibly need to get up that early for. Also I would have liked to read about your major and future plans you have for yourself.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I am also kind of embarrassed by how many hours I invested on Netflix this summer too! I was able to finish 3-4 whole shows. I say I am embarrassed but I do not regret it at all. I am very curious at to what exactly your job consists of? 4:30 am is very difficult I can imagine especially if you spent a long night of doing homework and studying but I am sure that you are killing it! Good luck with the rest of your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle! What a neat introduction! I don't think I have ever seen the city of St. Louis, but I have been in their airport a couple of times! So what is it that you do in the stadium for work? And how did you come to take this class? I am interested to read other posts of yours. Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle!
ReplyDeleteI too am guilty (though not sorry) of spending way too much time binge watching Netflix. But I barely watch television all year, so when I get a chance, I gotta squeeze it all in there. St. Louis is such a neat place, a great little summer trip town. My family had a great time there, and we would go back again. But I hear you, it was not exactly a trip to Europe, and I too am okay with all that. I get up super early in the mornings, not because I have a job that pays me to be, I have two cats. One demands that I get up to feed her often anywhere between the hours of 3 and 5 am. When I sleep in to like 6:30 or 7 these days I feel like half of my day is wasted. It is nice to have that time in the morning to myself and I think the most clear in the morning so that is often when I am doing my homework. Have a wonderful semester!
I'm with you, girl. Netflix is a large percentage of my day (I don't want to find out just how large that percentage is!)
ReplyDeleteQuick tip, I think your Introduction might be missing the Introduction label, so it made it difficult for me to find this post!
Anyways, I digress.
It sounds like a bittersweet summer. Great seeing friends and family, but missing your significant other can be a real stuggle! I couldn't imagine! I think my boyfriend went off on vacation for just a week and that was so rough!
Also, going to work at 4:15? WOW! I commend you for your willpower!
Anyways, nice to meet you!
Oh my goodness I hear you on this last summer! I was at one job from 5:30 AM-8 AM. I was at my other job from 8 AM to 5 PM. Lastly, I had night class too. So, I didn't exactly have the most glorious summer, but I got everything done I needed to. I am glad you got to finish your summer in a better way!
ReplyDeleteAs I type this I am binging on The Office off of Netflix, so I totally feel you. Also, kudos to you for waking up that early. I barely am able to wake up before 10, and that is on a good day. It's nice that you at least had your family to keep you company this summer; I remember how it feels to spend the summer in small towns, and it is definitely not great.
ReplyDeleteHooray for a summer that is full of more good things than not! I can sympathise with early shifts. When I worked at Target, my day started at 5am, which always meant being up waaaay too early for someone who prefers night to day. Food and a nap after a day at work is always something to look forward to, though! Here's to a great rest of the semester!
ReplyDeleteI know what it is like to be from a boring town! Unless it is summer and I’m on the lake my hometown can be pretty drab. It’s good that you were able to take a small vacation this summer and get away! I know I feel like I could use one right now. I don’t know how I would function if I had to get up that early for work. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteHello Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! I am a big Netflix junky and I have no time during the semester! I also understand the frustrations of being in a small town. I live in a small town, and we have to drive 30 minutes to go watch a movie or bowling. Great to meet you and I hope you enjoy the rest of your semester!
Hello Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI hope your semester has been manageable. I often find myself missing the quiet peacefulness of the summer and all of the Netflix I could watch as well. I am starting to think that all of us in this class may have a slight addiction to Netflix. If you don't mind my asking what is your major? I am a biology major and will be done in the spring so that's exciting! Good luck this semester.
Hi Michelle! I'm Michelle too! :) Very nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI hope this semester has been going well for you! I miss summer too and as the years go by and college comes to an end, I get kind of sad. It's just because once I start working and having permanent jobs, the luxury of "summer break" will no longer be there. However, we should enjoy it as much as possible while we can! Good luck for the rest of this semester!
Hi Michelle! I've had classes for the last two summers but I'm really looking forward to some netflix after graduation! Your summer sounds awesome to me.
ReplyDeleteIt's really great that you get to travel with work. I think that would make work a lot more interesting.
I'm also from a small town and I hate how boring it can be. It's also nice to know your neighbors so well. Hope you have a great semester!
Hi Michelle! Wow oh wow, I cannot imagine being up at 4:15 to be at work. I like to think that I am a morning person, but I also need 8 or 9 hours of sleep. What time would you go to bed to be up that early! I think it would be nice to have a relaxed summer, mine have been filled with classes and traveling. I love being busy at the same time though. Are you still working for the football team? I am a student athletic trainer and I work with a lot of football players as well. I wish you the best with your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had quite the adventurous summer! Unlike you, I could not handle waking up around 4:15am to be at work. I'm definitely a night owl and would much rather go to bed at that time. One Tree Hill is and will always be my go to show to marathon. You should never be ashamed of watching it! It's such a great guilty pleasure :) It was really nice meeting you and I hope you're having a wonderful semester so far!
Hi Michelle its nice to meet you,
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness 4:30 am that is so early. How did you even do that? I dont think i have ever gotten up that early in my life.
summers where I dont do that much are always my favorite. I love having lazy days where i can just watch Netflix.
I look forward to reading your work.
Hi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI can’t believe this is the first time ever coming across your blog and it is the end of the semester. Your lay out is so cute and girly! I think it is funny that you watched One Tree Hill during this summer because that is exactly what I did. Can’t say I’m ashamed about it either. Haha.
